The Venue
NDES 2010 takes place in the Görges-Bau (named after the physicist Johannes Görges), in the very heart of the university campus in Dresden.
This building offers a fascinating mixture of bulky electric machines and beautiful artwork, of modern lecture theatres and comfortable lounges.
Besides the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering, the Görges-Bau harbours the ALTANA art gallery. This gallery amazingly blends with the building and its technical equipment. Regularly changing exhibitions and a number of permanent exhibits are on display.
The current exhibition color continuo features the "system and art of colour". All expositions are accompanied by musical events and arts performances.
Further impressions can be obtained at the institute's homepage. The University
The Technische Universität Dresden dates back to the Technische Bildungsanstalt Dresden, founded in 1828 and, thus, ranks among the oldest technical-academic educational establishments in Germany. Today TU Dresden is the largest university in Saxony.
More information ... The City
Dresden is undoubtledly one of the most beautiful cities in Germany.
Severely destroyed during the war, the city centre today lives up to its old magnificence.
Not only Dresden, but the close surroundings with the city of Meißen
and its porcelain manufactory,
the Moritzburg and
Pillnitz castles and the
Elbe Sandstone Mountains (also called Saxon Switzerland) are worth days and weeks of visiting.
